What history tracks are stored on your computer

Browser History - your browser stores a list of every web site you have visited. Browser history is easily accessible from your browser and anyone can see where you have been while surfing the Internet

To clear history in Internet Explorer:
Select 'Tools'.
Select 'Delete Browsing History'.
Click 'Delete all' and then click 'Yes'.

Index.dat files are system files and they can't be deleted manually as they are used by Windows all the time (index.dat files are locked by Windows). Their content is not deleted even if you clear browser history, cache and cookies.
So you will need clear history software to delete index.dat files forever.

How to clear history in Firefox

To clear history in Firefox:
Select 'Tools', then 'Clear Private Data'.
In 'Clear Private Data' window put the check mark for web history items you want to clear.
Click 'Clear Private Data Now'.

How to clear history in AOL

To clear history in AOL:
In the AOL Browser window, select Security and then Clear My Footprints.
Click the Clear Footprints button.
This will clear 'Selected Footprints'.
You can easily change the list of AOL history footprints you want to clear using 'Select Footprints to Clear' option.

Select Delete private data.

How to clear Google history

How to clear Google Toolbar history:
Click on the Google logo on the Toolbar to access the drop-down menu.
Select the "Clear Search History" option. This will clear all the previous searches from the drop-down box.
This only clears the search history from the Google Toolbar, which is entirely separated from the search history stored by your browser. To completely clear search history you should also clear your browser search history.

How to clear Google history in Internet Explorer 7.0:
Select "Tools"
Select "Internet Options".
Open the "General" tab.
In "Browsing history" area click the "Delete" button.
In "Delete browsing history" window,to clear AutoComplete, click "Delete forms" button and then click "Yes".

How to clear Google history in Internet Explorer 6.x:
Select "Tools"
Select "Internet Options".
Open the "Content" tab.
Click the "AutoComplete" button.
Click the "Clear forms" button to clear all AutoComplete form data and/or click the "Clear Passwords" to clear restored passwords.

How to clear Google history in Firefox:
Select "Tools"
Select "Options".
Select "Privacy".
In Private area click "Clear Now".
In "Clear Private Data" window put the check mark for "Saved form and Search History" and click "Clear Private Data Now".
Click OK.
