What history files are stored on your computer
Your computer stores lots of history files as it speeds up loading of web pages and makes web surfing more convenient. But history files store information about every website you visited, every search string you entered in search engine, information you entered on websites and other information that may seriously compromise your privacy.
Your history files show all details you your computer usage - where you've been on the Internet, what files you downloaded, what programs you ran, etc!But getting rid of your history files is much more difficult than you would think as:
- History files are stored in different locations
- 'Clear history' option in your browser is not enough to clear all history files as in addition the well-known cache files, temporary Internet files, recent documents, etc there are other history files that also contain your history tracks.
- Some history files such as index files can't be cleaned manually.
- If you delete history files using 'Delete' button and even if you use 'Empty Recycle Bin' option, it doesn't delete history files forever. It deletes references to your history files but actual files are still kept on your hard drive.

How to clear history files in Firefox
To clear history files in Firefox:
• Select 'Tools' -> 'Clear Private Data'
• In 'Clear Private Data' window put the check mark for web history items you want to clear.
• Click 'Clear Private Data Now'.
How to clear history files in AOL
To clear history files in AOL:
1. In AOL Browser window, select Security and then Clear My Footprints.
2. Click the Clear Footprints button.
This will clear 'Selected Footprints'
You can easily change the list of AOL history footprints you want to clear using 'Select Footprints to Clear' option.
3. Click OK.

How to clear history files in Internet Explorer
